Insecurity…

       INSECURITY…

I always wanted to do a photo series chronicling Modern College life of Women of Color, so I think that I will really put my foot in my mouth and start to do just that. I called this piece insecurity a feeling many humans feels at one point of their life, that comes in various forms. In the context of  “college life” the insecurity I feel is the instability of the future. For years I have been subliminally told what to do;  5 years of primary school, 3 years of Middle School, 4 years of Highschool and now 4 years of College. Now my future is a blank slate, a white board where I am the author, not my parents, society or a higher being… Me… My insecurity feels like an extra layer of skin, a mask that skews my reality and paralyzes me at times. Yet I understand this feeling is a part of life, a catalyst.  Thus I liked the concept of covering their faces to exude the feeling of blindness and loneliness one feels at these crucial points of growth.
Insecurity of Self, Future, Beauty, Love and Money… All forms of Insecurity that we must endure to make us individuals with our self defined purpose.

What makes you insecure?

Welcome Students

My name is Janet Sackey and I am currently a senior here at West Chester University. I study History and Web Technology and I often get that loaded question,"What are you going to do with that?". That question takes the form of a pin, made to pop your dreams and belittle your passion and ambition. The person is really thinking "you are not going to make money studying that"... I have come across many students like me who have gone the unpaved route and are studying a subject that they love.  I study History to understand the world around me and also the roots of People of Color around the world from America to Ghana. I have aspirations to create an online platform highlighting the diverse narratives of the American Mosaic, focusing on stories in communities of color.  I wanted to create this blog so that the voices, dreams, fears, and stories of college students could be heard so that one could feel less alone in this big world. So my answer to that question is "well I'll just have to show you"!
